Use Case 3: Create a rich RCS Campaign with carousel of options and URL Redirects to drive engagement deeper

This use case recreates the Retirement planning use case (use case 1) as a Rich RCS carousel.

In this example, the campaign presents three retirement plan types in a carousel:

  • Individual Retirement Account (IRA)

  • 401(k) Retirement Plan

  • Roth Retirement Plans

Each rich card includes a URL Redirect button that takes the user directly to a web page.

This approach is useful when the goal is to move users from messaging into a website or mobile experience, rather than continue the conversation within RCS.

Before you begin

Regardless of message type, make sure:

  • RCS is enabled for your account

  • An RCS-enabled Sender Profile is configured

Refer to RCS Key Terms and Definitions for specifications and best practices of each RCS component.

Create a rich RCS Campaign with carousel of options and URL Redirects

The campaign creation process is the same as described in Use Case 1, with Step 3 outlining how to create the RCS message. In this section, we will focus specifically on the RCS content creation step, detailing how to build a Rich RCS message using carousel cards.

Step 1: Open your campaign

  1. Go to your campaign and open the Content tab.

  2. In the content type options, select Rich RCS.

Step 2: Create your rich message

In the Message section, click Create Rich Message. A message creation window opens. As you build your content, a live preview appears on the right side.

Step 3: Add your introductory message

In the First Message field, enter the opening message you want users to see before the carousel.

Example: Plan Your Retirement with Confidence.

Let’s explore the retirement plan that fits your goals.

Which option would you like to learn about?

This message is optional, but it helps introduce the carousel and guide the user.

Step 4: Build your first carousel card

Each Rich card becomes one card in your carousel.

For your first card, enter the following:

  • Title: Individual Retirement Account (IRA)

  • Description: An IRA helps you save for retirement with potential tax advantages.

    ✔ Flexible contribution options

✔ Wide range of investment choices

✔ Traditional & Roth IRA variants available

Step 5: Add a URL Redirect button to the first card

  1. In the Suggested Reply Button section, click + Add Button. A pop-up window appears asking you to choose a suggestion type.

  2. Select URL Redirect.

  3. Enter the following:

    • Button Title: Learn more

    • Action Type: URL Redirect

    • URL: paste your IRA information page URL

  4. Click Save. The button is now attached to the first carousel card.

Step 6: Add your second rich card

  1. Click + Add Rich Card, at the bottom of your existing rich card.

  2. Enter the content for the second card:

    • Title: 401(k) Retirement Plan

    • Description: A 401(k) lets you save through your employer with powerful benefits.

      ✔ Payroll contributions

      ✔ Potential employer match

      ✔ Tax-deferred growth

  3. Then add a URL Redirect button by clicking +Add Button:

    • Button Title: Learn more

    • Action Type: URL Redirect

    • URL: paste your 401(k) information page URL

  4. Click Save.

Step 7: Add your third rich card

  1. Click + Add Rich Card again.

  2. Enter the content for the third card:

    • Title: Roth Retirement Plans

    • Description: Roth plans allow after-tax contributions with tax-free withdrawals in retirement.

      ✔ Tax-free qualified withdrawals

✔ No required minimum distributions (Roth IRA)

      ✔ Long-term tax flexibility

  3. Then add a URL Redirect button:

    • Button Title: Learn more

    • Action Type: URL Redirect

    • URL: paste your Roth information page URL

  4. Click Save.

Step 8: Review the preview and conversation flow

As you add cards and buttons:

  • the preview panel updates to show how the carousel will appear to users

  • the Conversation Flow panel updates to show how users can interact with the campaign

Explore the feature gallery here to understand how the content appears in Android and iOS devices.

Review each card carefully to confirm:

  • titles are clear

  • descriptions are concise

  • each button links to the correct page

Step 9: Save the rich message

When your carousel is complete, click Apply and Close.

This saves the Rich RCS message and returns you to the Content tab of the campaign.

Step 10: Add SMS fallback content

In the SMS Fallback Message field, enter fallback text for users who are unable to receive RCS messages.

Best practices

Keep the user experience simple and direct:

  • use short, descriptive card titles

  • keep descriptions focused on the benefit of clicking

  • make button text action-oriented

  • use destination pages that match the card topic exactly

  • always include SMS fallback text

Click on the Best Practices icon at the top of the Conversation flow to see context specific best practices.

It is recommended to use the proofing functionality and send a test message to yourself to review the appearance and content of your campaign before sending.

What happens when a user clicks a button

Because this campaign uses URL Redirect buttons, the user leaves the RCS conversation and is sent directly to the linked website or mobile app page.

This is a good option when your goal is to:

  • drive website traffic

  • promote educational content

  • move users into a product or account journey

  • reduce steps between discovery and action
